Training Workshops

These workshops are for education professionals, recreational club providers, home educators and anyone that wishes to develop their confidence when using K'NEX. These are introductory workshops, that assume no prior knowledge or experience, and they are designed to help you:  

• appreciate how K'NEX can be used in a range of subject areas
• explore the new technology now available for K'NEX 
• develop cross-curricular workshops or challenges matched to the Experiences & Outcomes of A curriculum for Excellence

Getting Started with K'NEX & Kid K'NEX                                       90mins - 3hrs

Designed to introduce first-time users of K'NEX and Kid K'NEX to the huge potential of K'NEX and to help them to master the basic techniques of model design and construction. The workshop consists of a series of presentations alternated with practical activities that gradually builds the delegates confidence enabling them to exploit the potential of K'NEX in educational and recreational settings. A wide range of K'NEX will also be available to view along with support materials and guidance on where to find help and support with K'NEX projects.

Using Kid K'NEX in Early Years                                                        90mins - 3hrs

A demonstration of how Kid K'NEX can be used to help younger children develop the Experiences & Outcomes and the Capacities of A Curriculum for Excellence. Presentations and practical sessions work through building models from instruction cards, structured play and the use of Kid K'NEX in cross-curricular activities including story-telling, drawing and communication skills.

Building Robots with Kid K'NEX & K'NEX                                        90mins - 3hrs

Using new K'NEX equipment, not previously widely available in Scotland, this workshop provides the opportunity for educators to experience how Kid K'NEX can be used to learn about remote control and how K'NEX can be used to introduce simple programming. Using these technologies will contribute to the Experiences and Outcomes for Technologies in A Curriculum for Excellence. The workshop will also provide the knowledge and confidence to develop exciting projects or challenges in out-of-school settings.

Developing Numeracy Skills with K'NEX                                                      90mins - 3hrs

This workshop will show how K'NEX can be used outside of the subject areas traditionally associated with educational construction toys. Teachers will experience how K'NEX can be used to contribute to the Experiences and Outcomes for Maths in A Curriculum for Excellence.
