Secondary Workshops
Designed to challenge S1 and S2 pupils, these science, technology, engineering and maths workshops help to develop problem solving, team work, communication and time management skills in a fun, stimulating and educational environment.
The workshops usually require a large cleared floor space about the size of a badminton court (depending on the number of pupils). Some workshops do require tables etc, in these cases a room layout document is available to download.

Solar Science S1-2 60 mins
Following a presenter led discussion introducing solar power and gears, teams of 3 pupils will design and build their own solar powered gear trains. The teams will then demonstrate how their models work and explain how they solved any problems they encountered. Finally, there will be an opportunity to improve their designs to see who can build the longest working gear train.
K'NEXT Generation would like to thank Data Harvest for providing some of the equipment for this workshop.

Terrible Trebuchets
P6-7 60-90 mins
A cross-curricular historical/scientific workshop which begins with a introduction to Roman and Medieval seige weapons using K'NEX models and photographs. This is followed by an opportunity for teams of 3 pupils to design and build their own seige weapon, before testing the weapons (safely!) using ping-pong ball target practice.
The 90 minute workshop allows pupils to revisit the challenge set during the workshop, armed with the knowledge gained from testing and discussion.

Programmable Robots S1-2 60 mins
This workshop introduces programming in a fun, exciting and challenging way. Pupils work in teams of 2 or 3 to build their robot, to programme it, and then undertake a series of increasingly complex challenge boards: Novice, Intermediate and Ultimate. Important principles of programming and fair-testing are explored and team-work, communication and problem-solving skills are encouraged and developed.

Maths - I don't believe it! S1-2 60 mins
An active learning mathematical workshop that will challenge traditional attitudes towards maths. Travelling around the world with a companion, each pair of pupils will collect stamps in their passport from the countries they visit by solving a mathematical conundrum from that country. Everyone is guaranteed to succeed, especially those that don't usually enjoy maths. Maths - engaging and inspiring - you'd better believe it!
